I am just under 5'6" tall and not brawny and the Thule slipstream rack enables me to load and unload my 45 lb., 15 ft. glass kayak alone. For single women, this allows you take your boat out for a paddle without waiting for a partner! I also use proper ratcheting, padded tie-down straps for the body and ends of the boat rather than any hardware store products. My car and boat are protected.

Because of the spoiler on the back of my car (and because I can't lift 55pounds of boat over my head) my usual method of resting my boat against the top, back of my hatch and sliding my boat on my towel onto my racks was not going to work (used to own a minivan). This rack is perfect. I can slide the boat up onto the racks with no fear that any part of my car is being scratched. And because I couldn't find this information ANYWHERE, if you have Thule or Yakima crossbars, you SHOULD be able to load a second kayak beside your slipstream.

FJ Cruiser
I have a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser with factory installed roof racks. The cross bars are flat-oval in shape and about 37" wide, 2.5" from front to back, and 0.5" from top to bottom. I want to load a Hobie Pro Angler kayak on the Thule 887 XT Slipstream rack. Will this combination work on my vehicle? I saw a video that loaded the Pro Angler on an 887 rack mounted on a Toyota Highlander, so I'm assuming this will work on my FJ Cruiser, but wanted to be extra sure, before spending over $300!
