I have a 16 ft. kayak. As a 50 year old woman, I am easily able to load my kayak on my own with the Thule 887XT Slipstream. The height of the rack also clears our vehicle antenna. The straps & rachets are a bonus.

2008 Saturn Outlook

I am just under 5'6" tall and not brawny and the Thule slipstream rack enables me to load and unload my 45 lb., 15 ft. glass kayak alone. For single women, this allows you take your boat out for a paddle without waiting for a partner! I also use proper ratcheting, padded tie-down straps for the body and ends of the boat rather than any hardware store products. My car and boat are protected.

2003 Ford Escape

Because of the spoiler on the back of my car (and because I can't lift 55pounds of boat over my head) my usual method of resting my boat against the top, back of my hatch and sliding my boat on my towel onto my racks was not going to work (used to own a minivan). This rack is perfect. I can slide the boat up onto the racks with no fear that any part of my car is being scratched. And because I couldn't find this information ANYWHERE, if you have Thule or Yakima crossbars, you SHOULD be able to load a second kayak beside your slipstream.

Absolutely. It's the law for a reason, it's the only safe way to carry your boats. Many of our canoe and kayak racks come with tie downs, if not you can buy them separately.
