Each clip has a pin that fits into an OEM hole in the door frame. This eliminates the need to measure the distance from windshield to the front rack and between racks. However, the instructions call for those unnecessary measurements. It could be clearer that the pins just fit into existing holes. The kit comes with four clear plastic shields that are needed apparently because Audi/VW paint is more susceptible to damage than most automotive paint. This is not mentioned in the instructions, but should have been. It is tempting to install without the shields especially if you only need the rack for a day or two at a time. This is the first roof rack/vehicle combination I have seen (out of about six, so far, including Yakima, Saris, and Thule) that requires shields. Nevertheless, this gets a 4 rating because it provides a very secure mount.
