Thule Locking Straps

I was really looking forward to having locking straps for my canoe. I'm sure these will do the trick to deter potential thiefs, at least for a while. But I have issues with the straps that make me wish I had found another alternative. They are made of a thick twill-like cloth (with wires inserted in them). This makes them really bulky, and they're deforming my door seals significantly. Also, when it rains, the straps become completely wet and heavy with rain, which then drips in through the door jam, so that the entire strap on the inside of the vehicle is wet. Needless to say, it makes the car really smelly, and water dripped down onto my seats. I should be able to put my canoe on my car and leave it there, regardless of whether it's going to rain or not. Another issue is that it's difficult to feed the strap through the narrow slot in the locking part of the straps. I can tell that it's just a matter of time before the end will fray and the wires will pop out of the ends. I wish I had kept the box, because otherwise I would be returning these. I love Thule products in general, but this one falls really short. I truly don't understand why they made these out of the cloth instead of a water-resistant polyester or nylon.

The straps arrived promptly and appear to be of good quality.

While I haven't used my new locking straps yet, I am very impressed with the quality of the materials. Now I will feel safe having my kayak on my locked hullavtor knowing that neither the rack nor the kayak can be stolen!! Quick delivery too, thanks Rack Attack!!

Very well made. I probably should have purchased the 10' as I do have quite a bit of strap left over.

The Thule products are the best. I have a 2017 Subaru Outback Premium with factory install racks. The Hull-a-Port XL racks installed in about 15 minutes. My kayak is safe and secure with rack and strap locks!
