Because of where we live , we hadn’t used the bike rack (winter). We recently loaded up the rack with our 2 ebikes with fat tires on back of a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500. Shocked and disappointed to discover that we can’t use it. The taillights were totally covered. We were so excited to find the rack , were told it would work on our truck but it does not. Got any suggestions? Would have sent a picture but didn’t think to take one being so disappointed…

This bike rack is very sturdy and fits well on the back of our Roadtrek. The only issue is that you have to rotate or pull out the handlebars of the closest bike so it isn’t banging on the truck door. On the other hand, this is the only rack that sits so close to the truck. It’s very snug and makes backing up pretty simple. Swing out arm is a breeze. Haven’t been on more than local trips yet but so far so good.

Excellent rack. Unfortunately I lost one of the two locks. Rack Attack Vancouver won't order one, told me to call the (U.S.) company, who unfortunately don't ship to Canada. Anyone know a workaround?

This rack is incredible and amazingly well-engineered, but it's not cheap (you get what you pay for). Assembly is not trivial and takes about an hour, but nothing is out of the realm of someone with a basic assembly knowledge (i.e knows how to use a wrench and screw driver). Once installed, I have received numerous compliments when loading and unloading bikes, so be prepared to answer lots of questions! I'm thinking of asking RockyMounts for a marketing bonus, as I'm spending more and more of my time demonstrating the rack, gathering more converts in the process.

I was looking for a bike rack that would work on both my tacoma and my off-road trailer with a rear kitchen. When looking at the other big brands it was going to require me to get a separate swing arm, in order to open the tailgate properly and more important getting into the kitchen of the trailer. Then I found the RockyMounts BackStage, this rack is exactly what I've been looking for in one package. When it is mounted to either the truck or the trailer's rear hitch it is absolutely solid, there is none of the irritating wobble that is so common. One bit of advice when you are installing it is to gently lift up on the side where the swing arm is when putting the bolt in, as the weight of the swing arm causes it to go in on an angle if you don't compensate for this, seems to be a thing that most reviews mention . This thing is solid and I am incredibly happy with my purchase, it was definitely built with mountain-bikers in mind.

The lock for the pin does not work on a Sprinter van with factory trailer brakes .

The rack is great and very rigid. But, the online description fails to include the manufacture's warning that wide handlebars may touch the backdoors on tall vans. I have to loosen and rotate the handlebars on the inner bike. Annoying, but not a show stopper considering the rack is great otherwise.

I just finished installing/putting together this rack. The directions are pretty straightforward. All of the parts are identified via a chart. It goes together in about an hour or so. I wanted a platform rack and a swing out feature. The only other option is KUAT, it gets expensive to “build your own” swing out system with KUAT though. The swing out part alone is $329. Pay attention to the details with the KUAT racks, they dont include all of the features on the Transfer model. So may the time your done, you’ll be around $900 or so. This rack has everything you’ll need. the locking hitch and the cable lock are included (not so with the KUAT transfer. The quality of this rack is awesome. Ease of use once its assembled is impressive. The 2 reasons I got this were the swing out feature would allow me to open my tailgate and the platform loading of bikes seemed simpler. I can safely say I am satisfied. Do your research but buy this rack if you’ve got a truck.

Perfect for my needs. I have two Giant e-bikes and reviewed different racks. This handles their weight, is easy to use, works perfectly and isn't too heavy to move around when removed from the car. Really like the tilting feature, too. Reasonably priced, too.

We were looking for a bike rack that would allow us to open the back doors with the swing away arm whilst not sitting too far away from the van (it is already long enough IMO). The rack does fit that purpose it does need quite a bit of room to 'swing out'. If you have the luxury of having a drive to park on then this will not be an issue, Just it is going to take a bit of getting used to not being able to just open the back of the van, especially when street parking it can be an issue. 4 Stars for the mount but 10 out of 10 for the service at Rack Attack, it could not have been any better, it was in fact AMAZING :)

Excellent packaging, good set up instructions (a video would be better), easy to fold, drop for cargo, and - best of all - swing out of the way when loading heavy/bulky items. The lock and cable aren't my favorites but work well for one bike, but are better than most of the locking systems that come with a rack (only Kuat's is better, IMHO, but at a much higher cost). I used to have to remove my Kuat to load my drums, but this swing away and lock in place arm allows my to keep this rack on the vehicle for 99% of the circumstances I find myself in. I do like Kuat's hitch lock better, but again, at a much higher price. I would recommend this rack to anybody who has to have unfettered access to a hatch on an SUV.

Needs locks built into the arms Should sit a tiny bit lower so a truck can lower the tailgate while the rack is on. Would probably purchase a Thule T2 XT next time.

So far the rack has completely met my expectations. It's perfect for a van or truck where you need access to the tailgate. We mounted it on our 82 VW Westfalia. Tested it out a few weeks ago - we simply leave the rack swung out of the way for access to the rear hatch while camped, and attach it back when we are ready to go. Can't comment on the long term durability yet but I have confidence in the design and build quality (and lifetime warranty!).

Just installed and used the rack for the first time. So far it appears to be well-made and sturdy. Really like the flexibility of swing down (when no bikes) and swing out with or without bikes. Bright blue contrasting controls are a nice touch. Minor suggestions: 1) Make the drawings in the directions for installation larger for those of us with less than perfect sight. 2) In consultation with local bike shop, decided to not locate the curved arm that restrains the top of the front wheel as instructed. Located at 180 degrees from equidistant point between bottom constraints. Push hard against the tire and it really secures the wheel without potential interference with the brake calipers. 3) Installation instructions could use some additional advice for placing the individual bike mounts. It wasn't obvious to me and just took a guess. It needs some adjustment and I'll do that at some point after more experience. Summary: I highly recommend this model and cross shopped against Thule and Yakima. Since we have low step over frames, this was a lower cost but high quality option.
