What Hitches and Racks Fit My Tesla?
Tesla is one of the most innovative brands out there, pushing the envelope of what is possible with the design and technology. We are big fans of their all-electric vehicles here at Rack Attack, and we often get asked what rack and hitch options are available for the most popular models. After doing a fair share of various installs, we can confidently provide solutions for most Tesla models. Let's go through the models and solutions step by step.
We'll cover the following models:
- Tesla Model 3
- Tesla Model S (pre and post 2016)
- Tesla Model X
And we'll look into both hitch and roof rack options.
Tesla Model 3 Hitch and Roof Rack Options
Hitches
We provide and install the very popular EcoHitch solution - a 2" hitch with a removable receiver. We provide a cover for the trimmed hole when the receiver is removed. The hitch provides a 300 lbs tongue weight, which is sufficient for several bikes and all styles of racks.
Roof Racks
The best available fit comes from Yakima - we'll set you up with Yakima BaseLine system with JetStream crossbars (also available in silver). These have a 165 lbs weight capacity and can accommodate cargo boxes/baskets, bike racks, ski racks, boat racks and a variety of other accessories. Our team is very experienced at installing the system for you but if you are ordering online, you will be able to install the racks yourself provided you follow the instructions very closely.

Tesla Model S (2012-2016) Hitch and Roof Rack Options
Hitches
The solution for Model S is similar to Model 3. We offer a 2" receiver and provide a cover for the trimmed hole. You also get a 300 lbs tongue weight limit that works great for several bikes ad all styles of racks.
Roof Racks
Our recommended fit for Model S is Thule Podium fixed point fit with Thule AeroBlade Edge crossbars (in black or silver). The racks can handle 165 lbs of weight, which is sufficient for any rack or cargo box. You can also go with the WingBar option that offers more space but doesn't look as sleek as AeroBlade.

Tesla Model S (2017-present) Hitch and Roof Rack Options

Tesla Model X Hitch and Roof Rack Options
Unfortunately there are no great aftermarket hitch or roof rack options for this model, however, if your Tesla comes with a tow package (2" hitch receiver for loads up to 120 lbs), you can easily install most 2" hitch-mounted racks. If you have a 1.25" accessory hitch that was available for a short period of time, let us know, so we can suggest options that meet the criteria.
