Even if the product comes with a defective craddle out of the box, Yakima provides me a free one. No need to "fight" to have the replacement part. Simply a picture of the defective part and an email.

My biggest issue with this rack are the "zip strips". They aren't flexible and therefore need to be completely removed to mount a bike, which means you have to hold them in one hand or put them down. Why can't Yakima use a fixed rubber strap that's flexible like Thule? The locking mechanism on the hitch and the operation of the fold down carrier works well, and it looks good, but the strap system is just terrible. Very poor design. It's particularly annoying when using the tubetop frame adapter because the inflexible zip strip can't be fed between the seat and the tubetop, so one has to hold the bike up with one hand and thread the zip strip with the other, trying to get it to bend enough to fit. This was the tip that Rack Attack customer service gave me, which was very helpful, but still doesn't fix a fundamentally flawed and stupid design.

Easy to install and use. Can be difficult to place smaller bikes on the rack and you need a tube top adapter (bought separately) for step through bikes. Haven't noticed any swaying when bikes are loaded. Overall, this a straightforward and very user friendly bike rack.

We have found most bikes will fit with a little creativity, but if it absolutely won't a tube-top adapter will let any bike work like a charm!

The plastic lower part got stuck somehow in the hinge the first time I extended it to open my hatch and now that plastic is crooked. Seems still solid though. The vertical attachments are in the way of some rear suspensions. Because of this, one of my adult mtb bike doesn't fit.

I have been buying Yakima products for ever. Roof mounted systems for our bikes, ski's and whatever. We are now empty nesters and I can't get to my roof racks anymore. So on my new smaller SUV I had a 2" hitch receiver so I could put your Ridgeback 4 on my car. When I got it I was pleasantly surprised how heavy it was, but it was Yakima of course it was going to be solid. I wasn't going to write a review before I tried it but I may have because I believe in this product. But I didn't. Bought this bike rack at Rack Attack in Toronto almost ten years ago ! Still works great and the only issue is the locking handle to tighten the rack into the hitch is so beat up I need to use vice grips to turn it ! Is a replacement part for this available at the Mississauga store ? Thanks !

Not happy with this Yakima product. I was under the impression that this bike rack can be locked to the receiver. This unfortunately is not the case. By comparison, Thule receiver bike racks have a means where the rack is actually locked to the receiver, Yakima apparently does not. The small pin, which does not go all the way through the receiver, is really the only thing holding it in place......the "locking mechanism" is simply a pressure type system , which can easily be beaten, or more to the point, could become loosened due to road vibration. The entire bike rack can be easily pulled out of the receiver, even when supposedly locked in place. Very poor design. Also, the bike rack does not include any means to lock your bike to the rack....some bike racks have a loop or some means that you can run a cable lock through....again, poor design.

Solid product. Unfortunately the cradles cann't be move around to create larger space between bikes. Switch to fulltilt model instead, which is more flexible in cradle position.

Pretty easy to install (once I realized that that hitch lock was in the locked position and hence wouldn’t tighten!). Secure and solid piece of kit. A bit tricky getting a BMX bike on the rack, rubber cradle pads can get detached if a bike catches on the way past but seemed to fit back in easily enough. Bikes will be in contact with each other at times, depending on size and configuration so we have a little bit of frame rub but all in all a good product.

Installed the rack with the extremely easy instructions and it is very solid. No bouncing around while driving. The bikes attached to the rack do not move at all while driving. Unconventional bikes may require an adapter tube to affix securely. The rack locks in the hitch and is easy to install and take off when you need. Great rack. Would recommend 100%!

Just began using it. I love the function and stability of the rack. I got the 5 bike rack and took 2 carrier positions off so i have room to carry 3 mountain bikes with space to protect them from banging into each other. I haven't had a chance to try that yet. Hope to know soon, though, as my buddies get a chance to get out and ride.

Great value for a quality bike rack. No setup required and fit perfectly in my 2" hitch. Drove around my neighborhood with my bike mounted and there was very little movement or sway. Glad there is a lifetime warranty from Yakima. For this price and what you get its a real bargain.

Easy to install with no assembly required. Lots of useful features like a lockable hitch lock and the ability to tilt it for access to the trunk. Bikes stay stable with limited movement or sway. Great product backed by a lifetime warranty.

Needed a hitch mounted bike rack for my Honda Pilot because the roof is a little too high. Read a lot of reviews on the Ridgeback and decided to purchase it here at Rack Attack who had the best price. Very easy to setup and load bikes if you have a 2" hitch. It has a lot of useful features including the ability to tilt (no bikes) allowing you to access your trunk, add a lock for added security and a built in bottle opener. The rack itself feels solid but not too heavy when compared to other hitch mounted bike racks. I did a test drive where I live observing the bike rack through my rear mirror and there is little movement and sway. Need to test it with a full load of 5 bikes but I'm optimistic. For the price I think you get a really soldi product that is backed by a lifetime warranty from Yakima. Highly recommend.
