The rack holding 1 adult and 3 kids bikes seems like it is a max capacity during swing out. Alot of sag and side load from twist from the hitch down to the bar. There is a very weak point at the hinge and its tab ear design. I have cut some 3/4" o.d. Hydraulic tubing and made a sleeve to go over the 1/2 bolt to help support the tabs from bending together under strain. The rack did perform and was very convieneant to use as designed. The rubber straps to hold bike worked well. I would like to see Thule make a 2" square bar at the main elbow riser and make people bush down to a smaller hitch receiver. This would ensure less twist and make this unit more heavy duty to carry 4 adult bikes. My sag was significant. My truck is taller than most cars..so I would imagine very likely tires of bikes would scuff the ground first before swinging to a fully opened position. Thule ought to consider reinforcing the thick bars and gussets to prevent twist and sag. I would not purchase this product again unless they beefed it up. Going to research another brand but for now hold off on this one.
