Madeuce,

The maximum weight recommended by Thule for their Hullavator is 75lbs. I would not recommend putting an 87lbs. kayak on there.

The Hullavator is NOT approved for fit on factory crossbars, so basically you would need an aftermarket system. You can find options for your car by using our Combined Base Rack Fit Guide on our website's homepage. Enter in your vehicle info and it will show all options with parts and prices listed. Another thing to note is that the Hullavator weighs about 40 lbs, so if you're carrying two (80 lbs) you would need to deduct that from your rack's weight capacity to ensure your kayaks aren't too heavy. The Hullavator does not come with a base rack. You will need a base rack using Thule square bars or Yakima round bars.

I am going to buy a nucanoe frontier 12 this spring, and am thinking of getting a hullavator to assist in loading/unloading from the top of my full sized van. Frontier specs say it is 41" wide. As this is at widest point, mid-hull, and boat tapers sharply front & back, would hullavator be able to fit, as specs say 36" max? thanks for your response. pat

It is 36" at point of contact, so if the kayak tapers you can adjust the roof racks to mount at the point were the kayak is narrower. The roof rack will mount to the rain gutters of your van, so it is very easy to adjust the spread of the bars.
