5 Rating is for the bowdown itself. Amazing product, works excellent. The addon lock cores are a must. Can't say anythign negative about the BowDown.
The only problem I have is not with the Bowdown but the bow/stern tie downs. They have a PVC tube to supposedly protect the bumper. After one use there was still wear on the bumper. So i'm gonna have to just go without them. But the Bowdown itself is a great buy and I Highly recommend. Used it with a 12' Native Watercraft Manta Ray 2010.

SUV has roof rails with crossbars and needed a kayak carrier that would fit the OEM crossbars. RA tech support replied that the Yakima BowDowns would be the best fit for this configuration.
The BowDowns fit great and are held securely in place with SKS locks. The fold down capability of the BowDowns allows entry to garages when the racks are not in use. The Thule quick release fold-down is probably a better idea than the slower screw knob release on the Yakima. Excellent construction and ease of installation make these four and a half stars.
