Yakima SkyLine (Set of 4)

Work great!

I love this whole system. I took a little bit of time to get it on top of my car, but it is easy to take on and off a very solid base.

Directions are hard to understand.

Just installed my SkyLine towers from Rack Attack. They were the last piece of the set up needed. Rack Attack has consistently shipped quick and has what I needed in stock. Picture includes Skinny Warrior purchased previously from Rack Attack!

The little black security door got stuck in front of the torque screw. Major pain. Thank goodness a local REI staff member fixed it! RA was no help whatsoever.

Excellent engineering and easy to understand instructions

The security plate over the bolt made it very hard to get to. Once we figured that out the installation went smoothly

I had to trim a small piece of the rear end caps on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee roof tracks so the Yakima foot bases seated completely down. However, I am extremely happy with the Skyline design as it is very secure, and easy to install.

The Yakima Skyline towers and landing pads work well and provide great flexibility for switching between mounting ski racks, kayak racks, bikes, etc. and when racks are not in use, they come off in minutes so you don't have to drive around with the empty racks. They are sturdy and well made - expensive to get everything set up, but worth it in versatility, convenience and peace of mind that your gear is well attached.

Works good, easy to remove on the landing pads.

Integrates well with the landing pads on our 2019 Toyota RAV4. It's really easy to attach and remove the bars from this system. We only put the bars on when we need them now.

Wrong part for my application. NOT Rack Attack's fault but a different vendor who "helped" me. I ordered from RA because their price was unbeatable. Even though it wasn't their fault, RA spent time with me to find the correct part for my application AND sent me a prepaid return label. The replacement part RA recommended fits PERFECTLY...THANK YOU!

2004 Land Rover Range Rover HSE

Terrible. The assembly of these is horrific. The instructions poor. My friend and I have 40+ years combined product design and manufacturing experience and came to the conclusion that they are the worst we've ever seen. One of them was improperly made and couldn't be open without 1+hour of hassle. This caused other issues down the road.

Perfect, picked up a set of locks too. They definitely need the locks to be secure and not easily removable by a passerby.

2011 BMW 3 Series 4dr

One of them had a terrible fit and wouldn't open without a lot of hassle. This took a long time during assembly and caused problems later down the road on final fit and trim of the JetStream. I was unable to open to remove to trim the length of the cross members so had to do it on the car which was messy and a nightmare. The general engineering of the part is poor in my opinion. My friend and I together have 40+ years of manufacturing experience and though the design was terrible.

2010 Honda Element

I presume this is standard fare for Yakima. As my first exposure to the design, I find it clever and effective. Basically, the facing plate (pictured here the trapezoidal part with "YAKIMA" imprint) is a lever, that when pulled out, withdraws two locking bars (seen here as little step protrusions on either side of the bottom part), and conversely, when mounted on the car, the lever turned up and home (and locked, if you opted to purchase that option), the locking barrels rotate outward to lock solidly in the feet (Yakima calls "landing pad"). Really nice touch is that Yakima included a 3.5 Nm torque tool for torquing the screws and bolts. One minus for the locks -- they don't retain well, and want to come out when unlocking, and in practice, one has to develop a habit of holding the lock in with one hand while withdrawing the key with the other.

The towers work just as advertised. Only give them a 4 because like they "other" rack manufacturer, the locks are an overpriced "option" that should be part of the package. I just reused the locks from my old towers.
